The sun emits a wide range of light, most of which we can’t actually see. Remember the first time you saw a prism transform light into a rainbow of visible light? Infrared is the invisible light just outside the prism next to red light, thus the name “infra (below)" + “red.” Sunlight is 52-55% infrared. Infrared is a safe, gentle form of light that brings many good, healthy things to Earth and human beings. The energy it delivers is just right to nudge cells to stimulate warmth, growth and release. Infrared’s healing rays are felt on our skin as warmth, and are absorbed by our bodies to help them detoxify, relax, improve circulation, recover faster, sleep better, age well and help us feel good. The proof of this activity in our body is evidenced in the increase in core body temperature that happens during a 30-minute infrared sauna session. Sunlighten’s saunas are clinically-proven to raise core body temperature 3 degrees, which unleashes the most benefits to our health.
Indoor saunas provide a quiet place to relax the mind and body but offer added health benefits as well. Some of the psychological benefits include relaxation, stress reduction, mental health improvement, and better sleep. The established clinical benefits of saunas include improvements for cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid diseases, chronic fatigue and pain syndromes. Regular sauna use can have a positive influence on exercise performance, skin moisture barrier properties, weight loss, detoxification, reduced inflammation and muscle recovery.
Infrared comes in 3 distinct types. Infrared has a range of waves in it's own category that fall on a spectrum. There are 3 types based on wave size, frequency, and the amount of energy they carry: near (NIR), mid (MIR) and far (FIR). Through tiny pinpoint-size waves, each infrared ray does something beautifully unique for our bodies and nature. Memory tip: each one is named for how close it is to visible light. Near Infrared is closest to visible light and has shortest wavelengths. It delivers the most energy triggering the following effects in the body: recharging cell mitochondria, reducing pain/inflammation, reducing body fat, faster wound healing and improved collagen production. Mid Infrared is between near and far wavelengths. It is the hardest to recreate but Sunlighten Saunas 3 in 1 heaters deliver MIR at peak wavelengths. Heart health, circulation, pain relief and muscle recovery are the targeted benefits of Mid Infrared light. Far Infrared is farthest from visible light. It is the longest wavelength and is absorbed at the cellular level by water molecules. It does not warm the air, instead it sends energy inside of objects, heating from the inside out. This is experienced as a gentle radiant heat and improves health at the cellular level. Sunlighten's FIR heaters are clinically proven to increase core body temperature by 3 degrees F. They stimulate a deep detoxifying sweat which provides improved heart health, weight loss, immune support, relaxation, muscle recovery and general wellness.

One session will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. But similar to exercise, the more you do it, the better the results. Recommended use is 3-4 times per week for 30 minutes.
Sweat levels are different for everyone. Don’t be surprised if you don’t sweat during the first few
sessions. Sweating will increase with regular use. Even if your body is not drenched in sweat, your body is still detoxifying from harmful toxins. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water before your session. If you are dehydrated, you will not sweat as much.
To enable infrared to penetrate tissues as deep as possible, we recommend wearing as little as
possible. At Recovery Room it is required to wear at a minimum a cotton towel, gym shorts or swimsuit. Towels will be provided.
The bench is wiped down with a cleaning solution in between each client use. You may also choose to sit on a provided towel to protect the wood from sweat. At the end of each day the entire inner surface and door is cleaned.
Contraindications to sauna bathing include active fever, pregnancy, unstable angina pectoris, recent myocardial infarction, and severe aortic stenosis. Pacemakers / Defibrillators – The magnets used to assemble our saunas can interrupt the pacing and inhibit the output of pacemakers. For this reason, those with these devices should avoid sauna use. Multiple Sclerosis, Central Nervous System Tumors and Diabetes with Neuropathy are conditions that are associated with impaired sweating. Individuals with these conditions should avoid sauna use. Certain medications may affect your response to heat. Those taking meds that cause drowsiness, changes in blood pressure, heart rate, or circulation should consult their physician. Other meds including diuretics, barbiturates, beta blockers, anticholinergics, and antihistamines can affect the way your body responds to heat. If you have had a recent joint injury then heat should be avoided for 48 hours or until swelling subsides. Metal pins, rods, artificial joints, or any other surgical implants generally reflect infra-red waves and thus are not heated by this system. Nevertheless, you should consult your physician prior to using. Sauna bathing is safe, however, for most people with controlled coronary heart disease with stable angina pectoris or old myocardial infarction. Alcohol consumption during sauna bathing increases the risk of hypotension, arrhythmia, and sudden death, and should be avoided. Elderly and children may use the sauna at a lower temperature and shorter duration. In the rare event that you experience pain or discomfort, immediately discontinue sauna use.
Chromotherapy is the science of using colors to adjust body vibrations to frequencies that result in health and harmony. Each color possesses frequencies of a specific vibration, and each vibration is related to different physical symptoms. Chromotherapy works on various energy points to help the body re-establish its natural balance. You can choose the color that matches your wellness needs. See chart in Sauna room.
