Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) Therapy is use of electromagnets to generate a pulsating magnetic field and when applying to the body it can aid in recovery and rejuvenation. This technology stimulates all cells in your body to produce their own energy. As they do this, the cells in your body promote healing by working with natural processes. This enables the body's natural recovery process.
PEMF is used to treat a wide range of conditions and is beneficial for overall health and wellness. It is most commonly used to treat pain. Whether you have pain from injury, trauma, arthritis or degeneration, the PEMF system has been shown to dramatically reduce pain. PEMF is also used by athletes before training to increase energy production and after training to speed up the body’s repair process. Injuries that refuse to heal, including nagging or lingering aches and pains, can easily be treated as well.
This varies depending on the condition being treated and the health of the person being treated.
You may see short-term effects immediately as they include a decrease cortisol and increase in endorphins, and an increase in circulation. However, longer-term effects, such as nervous system improvement or the suspension of a degenerative process will take time. This time frame is dependent on the extent of the damage in the tissues, how long it’s been there, and the age and condition of the individual. It should also be noted that benefits may be limited without continued consistent use. For sustained benefits it is important continue treatment over time to see the best results.
At Recovery Room we use the TeslaFit+2. It offers a maximum PEMF amplitude of 3990 Gauss and it can produce muscle contractions that maximize the cellular voltage for rapid healing and recovery effects. It offers a variety of applicators to treat all body parts.
You may experience a gentle but noticeable tick or jump in the tissues being stimulated. These muscle contractions will be more pronounced with higher intensities but are not painful. There may also be a warming sensation at the site of application due to the increase circulation in the area of treatment. Many people report a feeling of relaxation and calmness during and following the session.
Absolute contraindications include someone with any implantable electrical device including Pacemaker, ICD, cochlear implants, intrathecal implants etc. Also, people with organ transplants on immunosuppression should not use PEMF. Patients with a mechanical heart valve, metal clips, staples, metal stents are not candidates for PEMF. Those with Grave’s disease or overactive adrenal or thyroid glands should use PEMFs with caution, as glands can become overstimulated and fatigued. Conditions with active bleeding, especially into the gut, should be controlled before PEMFs are applied. Patients known to be especially vulnerable to cardiac dysrhythmias should exercise caution when using high-intensity PEMFs near the heart. Anyone with implanted metal such as an artificial joint or dental implants will require written clearance from their doctor.
